Orlando Rays News Release
Mobile, ALA â Mobile got to the Orlando Rays early, then held Orlando's bats in check throughout the contest as BayBears dropped the Rays 4-2, sweeping the four-game series.
Orlando starter Brian Stokes (0-3) was tagged with four runs (all earned) on eight hits over 5.1 IP. Travis Minix was solid in relief, limiting Mobile to one hit over 2.2 IP.
Offensively the Rays were limited to just five hits on the evening, two of which came off the bat of Matt Diaz. Felix Escalona added his first home run of the season in the 5th inning. Escalona's solo homer was the only earned run given up by BayBears' starter Cory Stewart (1-2), who held the Rays to four hits over six innings.
The Rays travel to Birmingham tomorrow to start a four-game series with the Barons, the 2002 Southern League Champions. Trying to end the Rays' four-game slide will be right-hander Doug Waechter (1-1, 3.94), who went 6.0 innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits in his last outing, a 13-4 win over Huntsville April 17.
