Mobile BayBears News Release

Mobile, Ala. – The Mobile BayBears used four early runs against Orlando to complete a four-game sweep over the Rays, winning their fifth game overall, 4-2, Monday night. Cry Stewart (1-2) earned his first Double-A win, throwing six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out three hitters. Bryan Gaal picked up his first save of the season working a scoreless ninth.

Todd Donovan, in his first game back from the disabled list, started things on the first with a leadoff triple and scored as the next hitter, Rico Washington, grounded a single up the middle. After Rich Gomez was hit by a pitch and stole second Alex Fernandez drove a single off the wall in right scoring Gomez easily. The BayBears led after one inning, 2-0.

In the second, the first three batters reached for Mobile and Himberto Quintero drove in two with a smash double off the center field wall. Ben Johnson was thrown out at the plate on a great relay throw from Orlando's Felix Escolona.

That would be all the BayBears scoring on the night, but it would be enough as Orlando scratched out an unearned run in the second inning and Escolona homered in the fifth, making the final score 4-2.

The Huntsville Stars come to Mobile for a four-game set beginning Tuesday night. RHP Chris Rojas (1-0; 2.87) will start on the mound for the BayBears as they look to keep the momentum in their favor against the first place Stars. Game time at Hank Aaron Stadium is set for 7:05.
