I think the fans will be in for a treat when they come out to the park! The team is filled with talented kids who have a bright future in the game. They are receiving some of the best coaching in the world, and it will show. They master the fundamentals, play the game as hard as anyone I've ever seen, and ultimately have fun doing it. I coached many of these kids myself last summer, and I think it is such a cool experience for both the kids and the fans in Lexington County to have the chance to see the international future of our game.
Coaching with MLB China last summer truly helped shape my love for the game and form a new appreciation for it. I couldn't have asked for a better group of coaches to be with, and I truly learned more from my summer coaching there than I ever did playing the game. I grew as both a player and a person over there, and that is due to the coaches I was able to work with, but also due to the relationships I was able to form with our players. They made a huge impact on me and how I approach the game, and I can only hope I was able to do the same for some of them. These kids truly love the game and they devote their lives to it. Two of the most fun and meaningful times I've had in my career have been playing with the Blowfish and coaching for MLB China, and I couldn't be more excited to see them come together!
Again, thanks to all the Blowfish and the Lexington County fans! You gave me some of the best experiences and memories of my baseball career. I wish I could be there to see it myself, but I know you're going to enjoy seeing some great baseball from the MLB China coaches and players this weekend!
The sport of baseball in China is still relatively young, but it is growing at a great pace! MLB has a good presence in their culture and you will see MLB team hats and shirts being worn by people around the streets. I think that the kids in the academies are going to play a huge role in the continued growth of the game, and it will truly blow up once a Chinese born player is able to reach the Major Leagues. That is the ultimate goal for the academies, and I do believe without a doubt, that it is coming soon. MLB has done a great job of putting the right people in charge and it is great to see the results paying off for the kids.
