Milwaukee Wave News Release
Playoffs for your Six-Time Champion Milwaukee Wave are that much closer as they declare their victory against the Cedar Rapids Rampage Sunday afternoon. Final score Milwaukee Wave 8, Cedar Rapids Rampage 2.
"We played absolutely outstanding, because we were in front of our fans and our legs were rested." Said Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. "We had a great first half, but they kind of took us out of our game a little bit in the third quarter when they picked up the physicality. The team responded well in the fourth quarter and answered back ending the game with a total of 8 goals."
Milwaukee Wave midfielder, number 77 Marico Leite played his first game of the season after recovering from an injury scoring one goal off of a penalty kick.
"I'm very happy for Marcio." commented Oliviero. "He has worked so hard to get back to this point. He watched our team go through ups and downs and wanted to be on the field with us all season long. For him to actually be on the field in our biggest game of the season and play so well makes us extremely happy."
Midfielder, number 26 Ian Bennett scored a hat trick. Two of his three goals were unassisted. Other players that scored were midfielder, number 24 Max Ferdinand, forward, number 99 Andre Hayne, forward, number 8 Robert Renaud and defender, number 7 Daniel Chamale.
Next Saturday, February 18th the Wave get ready to take on the number one ranked team in the MASL Central Division Kansas City Comets. Kickoff is at 7:35pm at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
"It's a huge game. We've waited all year to get to the playoff position and we've now taken over second place." Said Oliviero. "We can't come up short against Kansas City. They've been one of the top teams throughout the past five years and it's our goal to secure our playoff spot with a win next weekend."
Tickets can be purchased at MilwaukeeWave.com or at the box office.
