MKE Wave Fall to Rival Chicago in Regular Season Finale; Game 1 of Playoffs this Thursday

March 5, 2017 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Milwaukee Wave News Release

Six-Time Champion Milwaukee Wave close out the regular season with a loss against the rival Chicago Mustangs Sunday afternoon at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. Final score Milwaukee Wave 4, Chicago Mustangs 5.

"We had a lot of new players that trained really hard with us all season long and felt that they deserved their opportunity to come out on the field in front of a great crowd and put on a show." Said Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. "The one thing with a lot of new players is we lacked a lot of cohesion and we could see the chemistry wasn't there like it has been in past games. At the end of the day we are looking at the big picture and our preparation is for Kansas City on Thursday. Some players needed to be rested and some needed to play. We looked at Thursday at how we would be best able to prepare for Kansas City and that is how we chose the lineup tonight."

Midfielder, number 26 Ian Bennett managed to score in every game this season after scoring two goals against the Mustangs tonight. He ends the MASL regular season with 64 points and 53 goals.

Other players that scored tonight were defender, number 16 Drew Ruggles and forward, number 7 Hans Denissen.

"We went 8-2 at home and 5-5 on the road. If you look at the last 12 games before today every single game was like a playoff game for us." Commented Oliviero. "I couldn't be more proud of the team and how they approached each game this season. To be sitting in a playoff spot in the toughest division in the MASL makes me extremely happy. We wanted to win for our fans today because they deserve a win every time we're at home. The guys played hard and we're back here next Sunday March 12th to put on another great show for our fans."

Your Milwaukee Wave prepare to play the Kansas City Comets in the playoffs. The best of three series kicks off Thursday, March 9th at 7:35 pm at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Kansas City. Games two and mini-game three, if necessary, are Sunday, March 12th at 2:05pm at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
