Mississippi Blues News Release
Jackson, MS. The ABA Mississippi Blues came out on fire against the Houston Takers on Friday night. The Blues could not miss behind the arc in the first couple of minutes. Blues owner and player, Daniel Price, opened the game with a 3 point basket off the tip to get things going. Point guard and former college teammate of Price at Pikeville College, Jarell Jones, hit the next three 3 points baskets putting the Blues up 12-0. Bobby Johnson came alive to get some key drives to the basket.
The Blues were in sync with Jones leading the team with 25 points and 6 assists. Big man Roderick Smith added 24 while Johnson had 21 with 9 rebounds and 5 steals. Three point shooter Richard Griffin scored 19 and Daniel price had his first double-double since he added playing to coaching with 17 points and 10 assists as well as 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Post player James Kendrick had a solid game with 14 pionts and a couple of thunderous dunks.
Coach BJ Townsend, who also played college ball at Pikeville College, stated, "I am excited to see Daniel getting back to his old self. He gives us veteran leadership on defense and as a leader on the floor.
Price played in the CBA last year and really gives us what we need. He is going to help us on our run now that he is getting back into game shape."
"I am very proud of this team and we think we're ready for the stretch run to the playoffs," added Townsend. "Jarell Jones, Daniel Price and Sandrell Spann grew up playing basketball with each other under the guidance of Coach Curtis Bailey and I believe the reuniting of these three players are what we need to make a run towards the playoffs and championship. We'll give it our best shot." For more information, visit www.msblueshoops.com or www.abalive.com.
