Mississippi Blues News Release
Biloxi, MS. The ABA Mississippi Blues look to lead the Southeast Division with the return of its top three scorers from 2008-2009. Coach Otis Gaines, a native of Jackson MS, who is also the coach at Long Beach High School in Long Beach MS, is extremely happy about the chance to lead the Mississippi Blues this season.
"The Mississippi Blues was a young talented team last season and was very dangerous," stated Coach Gaines. "A team would have to come out and play their best game against them. One thing I can say about the team is that they have a lot of pride. They don't believe in quitting. They will fight till the last horn. My job will be easy with the return of the Big Three in Roderick Smith, Bobby Johnson and Daniel Price. All I have to do is put the right personnel together to complement them."
The Blues are returning Rob Smith who averaged 20 ppg and 10 rpg as a rookie. Rod was also voted to the All Star team last season. He played on the Eastern Conference squad and had a solid performance with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Rod looks to dominate again this season with stellar play in the post.
Bobby Johnson was the Blues' second leading scorer averaging 18 ppg, 8 rpg and 2 spg. The Blues look to Bobby again this year with his defensive presence and slashing abilities. He has the ability to break open a game at anytime with his scoring and rebounding abilities. He has a sixth sense at finding the ball off the rebound and in transition.
The third scorer for the Blues is Daniel Price who joined the team late. He averaged 17 ppg and 2 spg. Price will be the team captain this year. "Price will be looked on to do more for the team this year as an emerging leader from last year," added Coach Gaines. "He is a very unselfish player and looks to get everyone involved, but I am going to look for him to be more aggressive on the offensive end. He is our best defender so night in and night out he will guard the opponent's best player. (Price is the team owner).
"We have added some key additions to the team that will help us in our quest to winning the Southeast Division as well as the ABA title." For more information, email dprice@msbluehoops.com or www.msblueshoops.com or www.abalive.com.
