Blues Travel To A New Home
July 10, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Mississippi Blues News Release
Biloxi, MS. Another professional basketball team is headed to the Coast. The Mississippi Blues of the American Basketball Association will relocate to the Biloxi, Mississippi area, team owner Daniel Price announced last week.
The Blues spent their first season playing in Jackson at Tougaloo College. The Blues advanced to the East Divisional semifinals. "We moved to the Coast because of the area's diversity," Price said. "The team can grow a lot bigger in the area because there's no college or pro team to compete against. The closest pro team we have are the Hornets in New Orleans."
The Blues will have tryouts on July 18th at Biloxi Sports Arena at 8. a.m. The fee is $125.
Bearcats coach Otis Gaines is the Blues' assistant of basketball operation. South Mississippi gets it fourth crack at pro hoops since 1986. Price, however, thinks the Blues have a solid game plan to succeed on the Coach unlike previous franchises. "We have a different approach," Price said. "We're not just about basketball. We're involved in community events like breast cancer walks, Make-a-Wish Foundation, karaoke at restaurants. Those things help build a fan base. We believe in giving back to the community." Gaines said the Blues have talked to the Coast Coliseum about having its home games in the arena. Long Beach is another possibility. The ABA season begins in early December and concludes around the middle of March. For more information, please email dprice924@yahoo.com or www.abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
