GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Sagu, Dallas Sidekicks

Sagu continued a marvelous season by leading the Sidekicks to a 2-0 record over the weekend and posting the second shutout of the 2003-04 season against Philadelphia on Sunday, January 25, saving seven of seven shots in a thrilling 1-0 victory. The blank sheet is the third of Sagu's Dallas career, tying Krys Sobieski's franchise record. The acrobatic 30-year-old also earned the win against Baltimore on Saturday, saving 11 of 17 shots in a 7-6 overtime triumph. Sagu, who has started all 22 Sidekicks games this season, is second in the League in goals against average (4.12) and wins (13), tied for second in save percentage (.749), and leads the MISL in minutes (1,324) and saves (271). The native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, was also named the MISL's Goalkeeper of the Week on November 3 and 24, and won Goalkeeper of the Month honors for November.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Lovelace Ackah, Milwaukee Wave

Ackah was a consistent force during the Wave's 2-0 weekend, blocking a total of five shots as Milwaukee held the Cleveland Force to six goals in two games. The brawny 27-year-old rejected three shots in a 5-4 win in Cleveland on Friday night, and blocked two more as Milwaukee downed the Force 6-2 on Saturday. Ackah becomes the third Wave player to earn Defensive weekly honors this season, joining Chris Morman (October 20) and Troy Dusosky (January 5). The native of Kumasi, Ghana, who has been named to two consecutive All-Star teams, has scored three points (goal, two assists) and blocked a team-high 35 shots in 18 games this season.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Carlos Farias, Baltimore Blast

Farias recorded six points (three goals, three assists) as the Blast went 1-1 over the weekend. In a 5-4 overtime win against Monterrey on Friday, Farias assisted on Giuliano Celenza's goal at 14:30 of the fourth which tied the game and forced an extra session. And on Saturday, Farias was involved in five of Baltimore's six scores, finishing with three goals and two assists as the Blast fell 7-6 to Dallas in overtime. The 27-year-old front man has scored eight points over his last four games, and now ranks second in the League with 40 points. Farias, who also won Offensive Player of the Week honors on November 10, leads the League with 28 assists.
