Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, FL (June 20, 2012) - The Fort Myers Miracle announced today their participation in the annual 2012 Miami Marlins/Florida State League Scholarship Program. The Miami Marlins and the Florida State League (FSL ), for the 13th straight year, will fund the scholarship program.
The scholarships, with a monetary value of $1,500 each, will be presented to a student employee, child or grandchild of an employee of FSL teams. Selection will be based on grades (must show a minimum maintained GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale), leadership capabilities and job performance. A total of 156 scholarships have been awarded to qualified applicants since the inception of the program.
Florida Gulf Coast University graduate Matthew Benevides was the Miracle recipient of the scholarship in 2011. Benevides was a game day volunteer for the Miracle last season and is currently enrolled in the management trainee program for Target.
The Miami Marlins provide a generous contribution to the scholarship program. The purpose of the program is to encourage and reward our school age applicants and send a message that an education is the key to success in life.
