Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle scored five runs in the first three innings and never looked back, sweeping the Stone Crabs with a 5-2 win at Hammond Stadium Thursday.
The Miracle (71-55, 32-28) didn't waste time getting the offense going against Charlotte (77-51, 42-20) starter Drew Strotman (0-2). After Strotman walked the bases loaded with one out, Trey Cabbage lined a two-run single to center to make it 2-0. The next batter was Andrew Bechtold, who singled up the middle to extend the lead to 3-0.
Jack Labosky then entered in relief and got the Stone Crabs out of the jam.
Labosky went a career high 5.2 innings in relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out four.
With Charlotte trailing 5-0 in the top of the fifth, Michael Smith led off with a walk. The next batter was Garrett Whitley, who clobbered a double to the wall in center to move Smith to third. With runners on second and third, Izzy Wilson grounded out to shortstop to score Smith and make it 5-1. Zach Rutherford followed with a sacrifice fly to score Whitley and make it 5-2.
The Stone Crabs scattered five singles over the final four innings, but were unable to push across anything else.
The Stone Crabs will look to break their losing streak at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, when they welcome in the Clearwater Threshers for a three-game series. Coverage of Friday's matchup starts at 6:15 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
