Miracle shut out Yankees for second time in three games

FORT MYERS -- Deolis Guerra has won two straight starts after throwing six scoreless innings in Friday's 3-0 defeat of the Tampa Yankees at Hammond Stadium.

After Thursday's 8-3 defeat, the Miracle were looking for a stopper and Guerra (4-4) delivered. He scattered five hits, walking none, and struck out one. The right-hander was helped by two double plays as the Yankees (20-25) never got a runner past second base.

The Yankees and Miracle split the series 2-2 with both Miracle wins going into the books as shutouts, including an 8-0 final on Wednesday.

Chris Parmelee opened the scoring with an RBI double down the right field line in the fourth, scoring Steve Singleton. Fort Myers (30-16) would tack on two more in the fifth thanks to a Ben Revere single to score Allan de San Miguel followed with a Chris Cates sacrifice fly, bringing in Mark Dolenc.

Revere and Parmelee each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Ryan Zink (2-4) suffered the loss after he surrendered three runs on six hits in six innings along with two walks and one strikeout. Former Twins draftee Chuck Nolte kept many of his former teammates scoreless in two innings of relief with two hits allowed.

Steve Hirschfeld pitched a perfect seventh and eighth, with one strikeout, before Alex Burnett allowed one hit in the ninth to save his fourth.

Jesus Montero continued his hot hitting for the Yankees after Thursday's two-homer game. The Tampa catcher finished 2-for-4.

The Miracle will face the Brevard County Manatees in a matchup of division leaders starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Space Coast Stadium. David Bromberg will look for his fifth win.
