Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

PENSACOLA, FL. (February 11, 2015) - To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Miracle On Ice with the 1980 U.S. Olympic men's hockey team, the Ice Flyers will be hosting "A Night with Jim Craig" at the Pensacola Bay Center during the game on Tuesday, February 17 at 6:35 p.m., brought to you by Dr. Stuart Harlin, Coastal Vascular and Interventional, and Gore Medical.

Craig will be performing the ceremonial puck drop at 6:30 p.m. He will return to the ice to speak about his experiences during the first intermission. The Ice Flyers will be wearing special USA jerseys that resemble the same jersey Craig and his teammates wore during the 1980 Olympic Winter Games.

Craig was the goaltender for Team USA that won the Olympic gold medal at the Lake Placid Winter Games. In the Olympic semifinal game against the heavily favored Soviet Union, Craig stopped 36 of 39 shots on goal as Team USA beat the Soviets, 4-3, in what is widely considered one of the greatest upsets in sports history. Two days later, the U.S. defeated Finland, 4-2, in the Olympic final and took Olympic gold.

He is a national spokesperson for the Ultimate SAAVE campaign, a public awareness initiative that encourages those with risk factors for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) to receive a quick and painless screening that can detect a AAA. His father passed away eight years after Craig's Olympic performance when an unknown AAA burst.

Craig is now the president of Gold Medal Strategies where he serves as a motivational speaker and marketing and sales strategist.

Tickets can be purchased at the Rodizio Grill Box Office located at the Pensacola Bay Center or online at Ticketmaster.com. Groups of 10 or more can reserve seats through our group sales manager by calling 850-308-7957.
