PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle managed just three hits in a 5-1 loss to the St. Lucie Mets on Sunday afternoon at First Data Field.
The Miracle scored their lone run of the game in the second inning. With two outs and Alex Kirilloff at third, Mets second baseman Blake Tiberi booted a ground ball, allowing Kirilloff to score.
St. Lucie tied the game, 1-1, in the third on a Dan Rizzie RBI double before taking the lead the following inning on run scoring hits by Tiberi and Rizzie.
Still leading 3-1 in the eighth, the Mets tacked on some insurance runs as Quinn Brodey and Tiberi each knocked in runs to make it 5-1. Tiberi finished 3-4 with two RBI.
Edwar Colina (0-1) allowed three runs in 4.2 innings to suffer the loss in his High-A debut. The 21-year old right-hander walked three and struck out two.
David Peterson, the former first round pick (2017 draft), limited the Miracle to an unearned run across seven innings of work. He walked one and struck out three and at one point retired 15-straight batters.
Trey Cobb recorded his second save of the year with two scoreless innings.
After winning nine consecutive series, the Miracle have dropped three-straight series.
The Miracle begin their final homestand of the regular season on Monday night when they welcome the Bradenton Marauders, the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates to Hammond Stadium for the first of a four-game series.
