Florida Fire Frogs News Release
KISSIMMEE, FLA.: The bottom of the lineup shined for the Coquis de Florida, but the Fort Myers Miracle received a run-scoring base hit from Michael Helman in the seventh inning to send them over the top in a 6-5 victory on Friday night at Osceola County Stadium.
Florida jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the second courtesy of their bottom four in the order. Logan Brown singled and Kevin Josephina doubled with one out to put two in scoring position. Garrison Schwartz drove in Brown with a knock. Brett Langhorne's first of two sacrifice flies brought in the other tally.
Fort Myers responded swiftly with a four-run third against RHP Tristan Beck. Four straight two-out hits, including RBI singles from Ryan Jeffers and Ryan Costello plus a two-run double from Andrew Bechtold placed the Miracle into the lead, 4-2.
Langhorne plated Brown with another sac fly in the fourth to get a run back, 4-3 Fort Myers.
The Miracle loaded the bases in the fifth, forcing Beck out of the contest. RHP Troy Bacon threw a wild pitch during Trey Cabbage's at-bat, bringing in Royce Lewis to bump the margin back to two, 5-3.
Beck gave up five runs on eight hits and two walks with five punch outs across 4 and 2/3's stanzas. Bacon got four outs, working around two hits and two walks while stranding the bases loaded in both the fifth and the sixth innings.
The Minnesota Twins top prospect had a nice night at the dish for the Miracle. Lewis went 3-4 with two runs scored. Costello added two hits and an RBI in five at-bats.
The Coquis battled back to tie the game in the fifth at 5. Andrew Moritz and Riley Delgado climbed aboard to start the rally versus RHP Blayne Enlow. A sacrifice liner from Jefrey Ramos brought in Moritz. Delgado touched up on a wild pitch during Drew Lugbauer's plate appearance.
Enlow didn't factor into the decision, tossing five innings of five-run baseball while scattering seven hits and two wild pitches.
The winning run came around in the seventh. Cabbage scorched a grounder off RHP Walter Borkovich that CJ Alexander mishandled, enabling him to reach second. Helman sent him scrambling to the plate on a base hit to left for the 6-5 Fort Myers edge.
Borkovich (2-3) drew the losing end of the decision, permitting two hits and an unearned run with three strikeouts over two frames. RHP Brandon White spun a scoreless ninth with two Ks.
RHP Johan Quezada (5-1) seized the victory, allowing just one hit and retiring six batters. RHP Joe Record walked one but picked up the two-inning save.
Brown, Josephina, and Schwartz all swatted 2-4 at the plate. Brown scored twice. Schwartz notched his first RBI since returning from injury. Langhorne advanced his on-base streak to five by coaxing a walk out of Record in the ninth.
NEXT UP: Florida looks to bounce back at 6 p.m. on Saturday night behind LHP Hayden Deal (3-8, 2.82). Fellow southpaw LHP Lachlan Wells (0-1, 6.75) throws for Fort Myers.
