Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Tyler Wells allowed two runs or fewer for the sixth time in seven starts, but was outpitched by Josh Prevost, as the St. Lucie Mets slipped past the Fort Myers Miracle, 2-1, Friday night at Hammond Stadium.
Wells (3-2) pitched 4.2 innings and allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out three.
Prevost (3-1) carried a no-hitter into the fifth and allowed only three hits in seven innings of work. He allowed one run (unearned) and struck out six.
The Miracle scored the game's first run in the home half of the first. After Mark Contreras was hit by a pitch, his team leading seventh hit by pitch of the season, he stole second. He would score on a two-out throwing error.
St. Lucie scored both of their runs in the third. With runners at second and third and one out, the Mets tied the game at one on an RBI groundout from Anthony Dimino. Kevin Kaczmarski made it 2-1 on a single to right.
Matt Pobereyko earned his third save of the season with a perfect ninth.
Miracle reliever Andrew Vasquez extended his scoreless streak to 16.1 innings by tossing 2.1 shutout innings. He struck out four, including the side in the seventh after putting runners at first and third.
The three-game series continues Saturday night in Fort Myers. Brady Anderson (0-4, 5.92) takes the ball for the Miracle. Gabriel Llanes (2-4, 5.64) starts for St. Lucie. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
