TODAY'S GAME: Game one of a three-game series against the Clearwater Threshers at Osceola County Stadium....Game three of a five-game homestand against the St. Lucie Mets and the Threshers (1-1)...First of four series between the two clubs in 2018, including two three-game sets at Osceola County Stadium...The Fire Frogs finished 6-8 against the Threshers in 2017, including 3-4 at home.
TODAY'S STARTING PITCHER: 22-year-old Tucker Davidson makes his eighth start of the season in game one of the three-game series against the Clearwater Threshers on Friday night...The Amarillo, Texas native entered the 2018 season as the 13th- (Baseball America) and 23rd- (MLB.com) ranked prospect in the Atlanta Braves organization...The 6'2" southpaw earned his first win of the season on May 10, allowing six runs on six hits, four walks and two strikeouts against the Tampa Tarpons at George M. Steinbrenner Field...The product of Midland College tossed 92 pitches, with 54 going for strikes...Friday will be Davidson's first career start against the Threshers.
FIRE FROGS AND METS CANCELLED ON THURSDAY: Thursday night's doubleheader between Florida and St. Lucie was cancelled due to rain, marking the third day this season games have been affected by weather at Osceola County Stadium...The first occurance happened during the home opener on Saturday, April 7 when the contest was delayed for almost two hours at the start, and cut short in the sixth inning due to another storm...Monday's series opener against the Mets was postponed due to rain, and Thursday's twin bill was washed out to close out the series...During their inaugural campaign, the Fire Frogs had 27 games either postponed or cancelled due to weather, including nine in the first half, with eight of those happening at home.
FLORIDA SPLITS TWIN BILL WITH ST. LUCIE: The Florida Fire Frogs and St. Lucie Mets split their doubleheader at Osceola County Stadium on Tuesday afternoon, with the home team falling in game one, 4-3, and taking game two, 4-2. Florida is now 3-3-4 all-time in twin bills.
Florida took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning on a two-run single to center off the bat of Garrison Schwartz, but Thomas Burrows and Sean McLaughlin could not lock down the top of the seventh, as the pair of relievers allowed two runs to score.
The Fire Frogs started the scoring early in game two with an RBI single from Brett Cumberland in the first, before the Mets tied the game with a run of their own in the top of the second. Florida pulled back ahead with a two-spot in the second, and added an insurance run in the fourth.
WALKER'S WAGES: Jeremy Walker tossed his third quality start of the season in game two of Tuesday's doubleheader...The right-hander limited St. Lucie to two runs on six hits and two walks over six frames for his first win of the season...The product of Gardner-Webb leads the team in quality starts in 2018, passing Bryse Wilson for the team lead.
MOONEY TALKS: Marcus Mooney had his second multi-hit performance in the 4-2 win over the Mets...The 24-year-old also scored to of the club's four runs, tying a season-high for the product of South Carolina.
