FORT MYERS, FL (July 18, 2006) - The Fort Myers Miracle pitching was spectacular for 8.1 innings on Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium and the offense beat up on the best pitching team in the Florida State League for an 8-4 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads.

Miracle starter Kyle Aselton, making just his third start since a month off because of a sore shoulder, was amazing allowing just one runner in 5.0 innings of work, a two out single in the third to 28-year-old Geoff McCallum. That was all Aselton allowed going 5.0 innings of one hit shutout baseball while striking out five. Miracle reliever Colby Miller nearly finished it off going 3.1 innings of perfect baseball before the wheels fell off in the ninth with one out. An infield single to McCallum along with a throwing error on the play by Miller allowed McCallum to go to second. A single by Dante Brinkley put runners at the corners and a walk to Brett Cleveland loaded the bases. Miller unleashed a wild pitch that put the Hammerheads on the board and then he gave up a three run homer to Juan Figueoroa, his fifth of the season. Miller went 3.1 innings allowing four runs on three hits while walking one and striking out three. JP Martinez got the final two batters to finish off the game.

The Miracle offense beat up on the Hammerheads pitching, which came into the game tied for first in the FSL in ERA at 3.26. In the third the Miracle loaded the bases with one out and scored the first run of the game on a walk to Brock Peterson. Steve Tolleson followed with an RBI fielders choice to make it 2-0.

The Miracle tacked on three more in the fourth when Deacon Burns walked and with one out Justin Arneson launched a two run homer to left, his second of the season. Brandon Roberts then dropped down a bunt single, advanced to second on the wild throw by the catcher, stole third and scored on a two out RBI double by Trevor Plouffe. Roberts finished the night 4-5, with a double, two runs scored and extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

The Miracle finished the scoring with a three run seventh. Peterson reached on a throwing error by the shortstop McCallum. Tolleson singled him to second and the two moved up on a wild pitch. After Luke Hughes walked to load the bases, Burns singled to right that scored Peterson and an errant throw by the right fielder Brinkley allowed Tolleson to score. Korey Feiner's sac fly gave the Miracle their eighth run of the night and 34th run in the last four games.

The same two teams meet Wednesday night at Hammond Stadium beginning at 7:05 p.m. The Miracle send RHP Anthony Swarzak (5-6, 3.82) to the hill against Hammerheads LHP Matthew Goyen (2-1, 3.47). It is Wayback Wednesday presented by WJGO 102.9.
