St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle trounced the St. Lucie Mets 14-0 on Tuesday night at Tradition Field.
It was the first time the Mets lost by 14 or more runs since the Miracle bashed them at Tradition Field 19-4 on May 14, 2009.
The Miracle pounded out 20 hits. Eight came in an eight-run third inning. Fort Myers plated three runs in the fifth and eighth innings as well.
Most of the damage was done against starter Chris Flexen. He faced the minimum through two innings but the Miracle sent 12 to the plate in the third and eight of the nine players in the lineup scored a run in the frame.
T.J. White and Joe Maloney clubbed two-run doubles.
Three straight RBI singles by White, LaMonte Wade and Nick Gordon off of Jimmy Duff in the fifth made it 11-0.
A two-run double by Brian Navarreto with two outs in the eighth against Domingo Tapia capped the scoring for the Miracle.
Flexen was tagged for 12 hits and 10 runs, seven earned, in 4.1 innings.
Miracle starter Felix Jorge dominated the Mets lineup. He cruised through seven innings, scattering six singles. He did not walk a batter, struck out three and induced two inning-ending double play balls.
Jorge improved to 3-1 against the Mets. He lowered his ERA to 1.55 which is the best mark in the FSL. He was the starter for the South Division in the All Star Game last month.
Kevin Taylor and John Mora had two hits apiece for the Mets. It was Taylor's ninth multi-hit game in his last 11 contests. He was named FSL Player of the Week earlier in the day.
Next Up: The Mets (41-38, 6-6) and Miracle (43-38, 9-3) meet in a rubber game on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
