Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, Fla. - Eight of the nine starters in Ft. Myers' lineup recorded at least one hit in their 8-0 victory over Jupiter Thursday night at Roger Dean Stadium.
Starting in place of RHP Josh Hodges, who was DL'd due to back spasms Thursday afternoon, RHP James Nygren made his first career start after 70 appearances from the bullpen. The 24- year-old allowed two runs-both unearned-on three hits and a pair of walks in 2.1 innings.
RHP Sean Donatello relieved Nygren with the bases loaded and one out in the third inning. A fielding error by third baseman Josh Adams allowed two runners to score before Donatello induced an inning-ending double play. The game was then delayed 59 minutes because of rain.
Six Hammerheads pitchers, including Nygren and Donatello, combined to allow 14 hits and strike out only one batter.
Ft. Myers fared much better in the battle of the bullpens, as four pitchers allowed just eight base runners all night, striking out seven. Starting pitcher Tom Stuifbergen was pulled after the delay, having allowed two hits in two scoreless innings.
Jonathan Murphy and Joel Licon had three hits each for Ft. Myers, while Miguel Sano went 2-for-4 with two infield hits, raising his batting average to .391, second-best in the Florida State League.
Austin Barnes continued his hot-hitting ways, going 2-for-4 with a double. The Hammerheads' catcher and designated hitter has a hit in 15 of his last 18 games, batting .417 during that span.
Isaac Galloway added two hits, including a triple, raising his batting average to .323. The center fielder has multiple hits in three consecutive games.
Now 0-4 against Ft. Myers this season, Jupiter will try to get back to their winning ways Friday night at Roger Dean Stadium. RHP Anthony DeSclafani, with his sparkling 4-1 record and 0.70 ERA will take the mound for the Hammerheads. LHP Taylor Rogers (2-1, 1.59) will pitch for the visiting Miracle.
