Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, FL (August 17, 2006) - Each year the Fort Myers Miracle and the 11 other teams in the Florida State League team up with the Florida Marlins and award one deserving person from each club a $1,000 educational scholarship. This season's recipient from the Miracle is Nicole McNabb.
Nicole is the daughter of Miracle President Linda McNabb. She has worked for the Miracle over the past few seasons helping out in the food and beverage department during Minnesota Twins Spring Training and the Miracle season. She attends Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, FL and is studying to become a teacher.
"Nicole has been a tremendous help to the Miracle over the years," said Miracle General Manager Steve Gliner. "Whenever we need to call on someone for a little extra help Nicole is always the first to help out. We feel she is a deserving recipient of this scholarship and know it will go to good use as she strives to shape the minds of the next generation."
The Florida Marlins have sponsored this program with the Florida State League the past seven years. Nancy Olson, Florida Marlins Community Executive Director, plays a key role in this program and is responsible for the continued success of this project.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be an employee of or the child or grandchild of an employee of the participating club during the 2006 Florida State League Season, and must be at least a high school junior by the 2006 Fall Term.
League President Chuck Murphy stated; "This program is one of our most important things we do in this League and I congratulate the General Managers on their dedication and emphasis placed on this endeavor."
All 12 winners from each FSL team will be guests of the Florida Marlins on Sunday, August 20, 2006 at Pro Player Stadium and will be recognized on the field during pre-game ceremonies. The game is at 1:05 PM and the visiting team will be the Atlanta Braves.
