Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, FL (August 4, 2009) - The Fort Myers Miracle announced today that infielder Alejandro Machado has been assigned by the Minnesota Twins from the GCL Twins to the Miracle. The 27-year old will be in the lineup tonight when the Miracle host the Charlotte Stone Crabs at 7:05 p.m.
Machado began the year with Triple-A Rochester where he hit .222 in 18 games, before suffering a knee injury. He was 5-for-9 in his most recent stint with the GCL Twins.
After missing all of 2007 with a shoulder injury, the right-handed hitter posted a .338 batting average in 54 games with Rochester last season.
The Caracas, Venezuela native was a non-roster invitee to the Minnesota Twins Spring Training in 2009. He has 32 days of Major League service on his resume, after playing in 10 games (1-for-5) with the Boston Red Sox in 2005. Drafted by the Minnesota Twins from the Washington Nationals in the 2006 rule 5 draft.
A potential playoff preview highlights the upcoming week for the Miracle. The first-half South Division Champions trail Charlotte by one game, while the Stone Crabs have a four-game playoff lead. The Miracle host their closest rival tonight, Thursday and Friday at 7:05 p.m.
