Minnesota United FC News Release
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Monday, March 9th) -- Minnesota United announced today the signing of goalkeeper Sammy N'Djock. The 24-year-old Cameroonian international comes to Minnesota after playing in France, Turkey and making the final roster for the Cameroonian National Team in 2014 FIFA World Cup.
"We are excited to add a player of Sammy's quality to our roster, he's a complete goalie," said United Head Coach Manny Lagos. "Sammy is a player with a lot of experience playing in Europe and he has a lot good years left to become an outstanding soccer player here with United."
N'Djock has been on trial with United during the preseason, playing in each of the team's three friendly matches. His quick reactions and acrobatic style of play make him a formidable presence between the uprights.
"I'm really happy to be a part of this great organization and great fanbase," said N'Djock. "I am going to work as hard as I can everyday to make my teammates and coaches proud. I've been with the team the past couple weeks and I'm looking forward to starting the season in April."
The young goalkeeper made his professional debut for Lille II in 2007 after spending his youth in the Lille Academy. Making few appearances for the French side, N'Djock went to play for Antalyaspor in the TTF First League, Turkey's second division, in 2010. The goalkeeper still played a backup role until being loaned to Fethiyespor for the 2013-2014 season, where he made 30 appearances for the club and posted four clean sheets.
N'Djock has become a part of the Cameroon National Team, making his international debut against Ukraine and helping his team earn a 0-0 draw. His other appearances with the team, and performances with Fethiyespor, earned him a spot on the 2014 World Cup roster.
Along with the rest of United, N'Djock will continue to prepare for the NASL Spring Season with a trip to Brazil. The team will then return stateside to begin their 2015 campaign against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on April 11th.
