Minnesota United Defeats San Antonio Scorpions in Wild 4-3 Victory

SAN ANTONIO, TX - Minnesota United got its second straight win on Saturday night with a 4-3 win over the San Antonio Scorpions. The teams scored five goals in the first half with Christian Ramirez scoring in his third straight match and Kalif Alhassan putting up a goal and two assists.

"It's never easy to get points on the road in this league," said United Head Coach Manny Lagos. "The guys reacted really well and showed their heart tonight. It was important to get that fourth goal to start the second half. We can build off this result and move forward in the rest of the Fall Season."

Scoring started early with a controversial goal for Minnesota. Alhassan made a run to the end line and chipped a pass to Ramirez in front of goal. The 2014 Golden Boot winner headed the ball on goal, but a Scorpions defender cleared the ball out. However, he was just too late as the assistant referee signaled for the goal, giving United the early lead.

San Antonio struck back five minutes later off a corner kick. Marvin Chávez' cross fell to the feet of Adrian Cann who beat United goalkeeper Sammy Ndjock to tie the game.

United answered back on a quick break from the midfield. Ibson played the ball up to Ramirez who dribbled up the pitch with defender Justin Davis making a run as well. Ramirez placed a perfectly timed through ball to Davis who beat the Scorpions keeper - and former United player - Daryl Sattler to reclaim the lead.

San Antonio equalized once again, this time off a penalty. Daniel Mendes fouled a Scorpions player going for a header in the box, setting up the chance for Rafael Castillo who easily put home the penalty chance.

Minnesota took a key lead before halftime with a well-worked free kick from Alhassan and Kevin Venegas that found Ibson, who headed home the curling cross, good for his second goal in as many games.

After halftime, United got off to a quick start with Alhassan getting a goal of his own. After receiving a ball from Ibson, the midfielder chipped the ball over Sattler to double United's lead for the first time.

San Antonio would pull a goal back thanks to another Castillo penalty, but solid United defending and discipline issues sealed the Scorpions' fate.
