Minnesota Timberwolves Announce Front Office and Coaching Staff Updates

Minneapolis/St. Paul - The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the front office promotion of Josh Gershon to Director of Basketball Intelligence/Assistant General Manager of the Iowa Wolves. Additionally, the Timberwolves announced the coaching staff promotions of Jeff Newton to Assistant Coach/Quality Control Coach and James White to Player Development Assistant.

"All three have earned their new roles and added responsibilities. Working with each has been wonderful," said Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly. "As an organization we have benefited greatly from their unique backgrounds. I'm excited to see the continued growth of Josh, Jeff and James. All three have tremendously bright futures."

"As we have since my arrival to the Twin Cities, we have put an emphasis on staff development and rewarding the hard work and dedication those on our staff make to the organization."

Gershon has spent the last three seasons as the Timberwolves College Scouting Coordinator where he's assisted in draft preparation and player personnel evaluations. He is a former national recruiting analyst for 247 Sports and held similar roles for Scout/FOX Sports. In his new role, Gershon will oversee the team's Basketball Intelligence department and assist Timberwolves Director of Player Personnel/Iowa Wolves General Manager Jonathan Wallace in the day-to-day basketball operations of the Iowa Wolves. A native of Tucson, Ariz., Gershon graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Management Information Systems.

Newton joins Coach Finch's staff after serving as the Iowa Wolves Head Coach the last two seasons. Prior to joining Iowa, Newton spent two seasons with the Timberwolves as the team's Offensive Associate/Player Development Coach and was the team's head coach for the 2021 Timberwolves Summer League team in Las Vegas. Before that, he served as an assistant video coordinator for the Sacramento Kings for three seasons. Prior to his time with the Kings, Newton was with the Houston Rockets for three seasons, spending one year each as a personnel scout, assistant video coordinator and basketball operations intern. Newton got his start in the NBA as a basketball operations intern with the then Charlotte Bobcats. A native of Barrington, Rhode Island, Newton graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a degree in Sports Management.

White joins the Timberwolves coaching staff after spending last season with the Iowa Wolves as an Assistant Coach. Prior to the Wolves, he served as a head coach for two seasons in The Basketball League. He entered coaching after a long and successful playing career with stints in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and New York Knicks, the NBA D League and international leagues in Italy, Russia, and Turkey. White was selected 31st overall in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. A McDonald's High School All-American, White played one season at the University of Florida before transferring to the University of Cincinnati. He was a three-year starter for the Bearcats and was the team's leading scorer (15.9 ppg) as a senior in 2005-06.
