Minnesota ready for expansion draft

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The National Lacrosse League (NLL) today announced the dates for the Expansion Draft and the 2004 Entry Draft. The Expansion Draft will be held on Tuesday, October 19 at 1:00 PM. The 2004 NLL Entry Draft will be held on Tuesday, October 26 at 7:00 PM. Both drafts will be conducted via telephone conference call.

Minnesota will select one player from each NLL team for a total of ten players in the Expansion Draft. Each club is allowed to protect either one goaltender and thirteen runners or two goaltenders and ten runners from its current roster. No team can lose more than one player in the Expansion Draft. Teams submitted their Protected Player Lists to the League on Tuesday, October 5. Minnesota also owns the first overall pick in this year's 2004 NLL Entry Draft. In addition, the team currently owns the first pick in each additional round of the six-round Draft. Minnesota will select from among the best young lacrosse talent in the United States and Canada. The players come from the box/indoor lacrosse programs of Canadian Junior Lacrosse, which includes the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) and the British Columbia Lacrosse Association (BCLA). Players are also drafted from American collegiate lacrosse programs of the National College Athletics Association (NCAA) and the National Athletic Interscholastic Association (NAIA).

The Minnesota Lacrosse team will build its roster via the Expansion Draft, the annual NLL Entry Draft and the signing of free agents.
