Mini-Camp Kicks off Tomorrow for Firebirds
December 10, 2003 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Albany/Indiana Firebirds News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Firebirds of the Arena Football League will be holding a three-day mini camp, beginning tomorrow and finishing on Saturday, involving all players currently under contract with the team. This will mark the first time the Firebirds will conduct their team mini-camp a month before the start of training camp, which begins in January.
On Thursday, players will go through testing for Head Coach Steve DeBerg during the morning session (7 - 9 AM) at the SportsZone (6601 Coffman Road, Indianapolis). The Firebirds will conduct two practices each on Thursday (12/11) and Friday (12/12), with one lone practice on Saturday. Both afternoon practice sessions run from 11 AM - 1 PM.
DeBerg decided to move mini-camp from January to December in order to give him time to evaluate the new free-agents, along with the returning veterans, in a training camp setting. The Firebirds return 14 players from their (6-10) team a year ago. All-Arena performers WR/DB Evan Hlavacek and OL/DL Chris Snyder head the list of returners, along with 2003 Kicker of the Year Clay Rush.
First-year team members that will be arriving in Indianapolis today include former AFL Player of the Year OS Mike Horacek, 2002 Colts practice squad member OL/DL Hans Olsen, 1998 NCAA sack leader OL/DL Tom Burke, af2 Offensive Player of the Year QB Tony Zimmerman, three-year NFL cornerback Robert Bean, and two-year Firebirds veteran and former New Orleans Saints' special teams Player of the Year, WR/LB Brett Bech.
Firebirds' season tickets for the 2004 season are on sale now and can be purchased by calling a Firebirds' ticket representative at 317.472.8080. Firebirds merchandise is also available at Home Court Gift Shop. For merchandise information, please call 317.917.2755.
