Forward Madison FC News Release
MADISON, WI: Forward Madison FC finally returned home to historic Breese Stevens Field on Saturday, September 9th to face One Knoxville SC. FMFC entered this match in sixth place in the USL League One standings, and Knoxville entered two points behind in seventh. It was an important match for both teams, with playoffs just around the corner. The match kicked off just after 7pm CT.
The first half was all about possession for both teams. In the 12th minute, One Knoxville was given a free kick a couple yards outside the 18-yard box. Forward Madison goalkeeper Bernd Schipmann made an on-the-line foot save to keep the game level at 0-0. The 'Mingos continued to move the ball across the field; however, they were only able to get one shot off during the half. Both teams went into the locker room tied 0-0.
Forward Madison FC came out of the locker room with a change in energy. In the 48th minute, One Knoxville player Derek Waldeck was issued his second yellow card of the night, and shown a red card to send him off the pitch. Since Knoxville was down a man, Forward Madison increased the pressure. In the 73rd minute, FMFC midfielder Mauro Cichero played a through ball to forward Christian Chaney who hit a strike on frame, but Knoxville keeper Sean Lewis made a flying save to keep the game scoreless. Despite being a player down, Knoxville continued to defend well against Forward's attacks. With 11 minutes of stoppage, a few cards were shown to either side. Forward Madison had one last opportunity off of a corner kick, but the match ended 0-0
Next up, Forward Madison FC has a quick turnaround, playing on Thursday, September 14th at 7pm CT at Breese Stevens Field. The 'Mingos face Richmond Kickers for the third time this season, looking for a clean sweep in the Henny Derby.
