Sussex County Miners News Release
Ottawa, ON - The Sussex County Miners (9-6) marched into the Canadian capital and took home a commanding win over the Ottawa Champions (5-8) by a score of 9-3 in a game that saw the Miners score in five consecutive innings, Tyler Alexander threw a complete game gem, throwing 137 pitches over his nine innings for Sussex County.
The Miners scored first in the top of the third, an inning which was plagued by Champions errors. Two runs resulted from those errors. The Champions responded immediately in the bottom of the inning as Steve Nyisztor struck for a two-run home run to tie the game at 2. Luis Alen then came through with an RBI-double in the top of the fourth to retake the lead for Sussex County at 3-2. Ottawa's Chase Harris converted an RBI-single in the bottom of the fourth to retie the game at three.
Sussex County pulled ahead again in the top of the fifth inning when Jayce Ray hit an RBI-single to make the game 4-3. After no response from Ottawa in the bottom half of the fifth, Jarred Mederos blew open the game with his second 3-RBI double of the season in the top of the sixth to make it 7-3.
Martin Figueroa would convert a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh to drive a run to push the lead to 8-3. Alen then drove in Breland Almadova later in the inning to extend the lead to 9-3. Alexander (2-0) would take it home from there, and pick up the complete game victory for the Miners. He allowed three runs on six hits with five walks and two strikeouts, and only allowed one hit after the fourth inning. Noah Gapp (0-1) took the loss for Ottawa.
The Miners will be in action again tomorrow at RGCT Park in Ottawa when they play the Champions at 7:05 PM.
