MARION, IL - Kevin House sure had quite the Southern Illinois Miner debut.

The starting center fielder scored all three Miner runs as he crossed home plate for the final time in the bottom of the eleventh inning on a past ball to down the River City Rascals 3-2 Saturday night.

To go along with his three runs scored, House also stole four bases. He was picked up when Gateway Grizzlies released him after hitting .133 in 19 games.

The Rascals trailed for a majority of the game as Miners starter Nick Starnes tossed the first seven innings scoreless. Trailing 2-0 in the eighth, Andrew Sweet led off with his first ever professional road home run, a blast to right to bring the Rascals within a run at 2-1. Starnes would get the gate after the Sweet home run.

Mike Phelps entered to save his fourth game for the Miners in the ninth inning but could not close the door. Brad Hough singled to lead off and stole second. One out later, Jeff Miller drove him in to tie the game at two. For Phelps, it was his first run allowed in 19 innings.

Pat Evers took over for Rascals starter Danny Powers who went 6.1 innings in his last start of 2008. Powers was charged for two runs and ten hits in a no-decision. Evers held the Miners scoreless through 3.2 innings.

Ryan Ashner came in for River City to start the bottom of the eleventh and with two outs and a runner at first, walked Joey Metropoulos. Jonathan Miller entered for River City and walked Tim Dorn to load the bases. Miller's next pitch to Brenden Akashian snuck past Sweet and the Miners won the game.

Asher figured into his second straight decision as he was charged the unearned run to fall to 1-1. Phelps improved to 1-0, going 3.0 innings with six strikeouts.

The Rascals (44-48) committed five errors in the game including a dropped pop up by first baseman Will Basom in foul ground which would have ended the eleventh inning. River City wraps up its season series with Southern Illinois Sunday at 2:05 p.m. with Toro Trevino (2-3, 8.89 ERA) scheduled to start.
