
Miners soar past Fightin' Falcons, 6-1

MESA, ARIZONA -The Mesa Miners beat their cross-town rival the Surprise Fightin' Falcons to even the season series 1-1.
The Miners got on the board in the first inning with an RBI single by Paul Powell to take a 1-0 lead. The big inning for Mesa was the fifth when they scored five times for a 6-0 lead. Powell got his second RBI single of the night in the inning as well as RBI doubles by Adam Bonner, Marcus Jensen, and Marcus Knight.
Mesa starter Grant Williams (3-1) pitched a great game giving up just one run on five hits in eight innings to earn his third win of the year. Kelly Johnson pitched a scoreless ninth to finish the game. Surprise starter Chris Russ (2-2) got the loss by giving up six runs on eight hits in five innings pitched.
Game three of the four game series is tomorrow at HoHoKam Park at 6:05 pm. The scheduled starter for Mesa is Chris Marini (1-0, 3.91 ERA).
