Milwaukee Wave One Game from the Championship
April 24, 2019 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
Milwaukee, Wisconsin - The six-time Champion Milwaukee Wave are one victory away from the MASL League Championship game, but they'll have to go through three-years-in-a-row champion Baltimore Blast to get there.
The Wave took a 21-3 regular season record into the playoffs. The Blast's record was 17-7, coming off three consecutive championship seasons. The two teams will clash on April 28th at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena to decide who plays for the Ron Newman Cup in the Championship Game.
Tickets for the game are available online at milwaukeewave.com, and fans are encouraged to wear their black Wave game gear for the night's Blackout theme, with concessions featuring $3 popcorn and $3 beer.
"We are very excited to be hosting our Conference Final game in the city of Milwaukee and playing in front of our fantastic fans!" said Wave coach Giuliano Oliviero. "The Blast are the three-time defending MASL champions, so we know it will be a difficult task but a task we are very prepared for this year!"
The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) Playoff Format consists of the Ron Newman Cup tournament, which is made up of three rounds: The Divisional Championships, Conference Finals, and Ron Newman Cup Championship. The Divisional Championships are a home-and-home series with each team getting a chance to host a game. The higher seed decides which game in the series they prefer to host. The Conference Finals and Ron Newman Cup Championships are decided in a one-game, winner-take-all format, with the higher seed determining the date and location of each game.
Wave forward Ian Bennett is energized at the prospect of playing such a crucial game at home. "We have the greatest fans in the world," he said. "Having that kind of spectacular support and enthusiasm behind our team at every game is one of the reasons we got here in the first place."
