Milwaukee Wave News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) â The Milwaukee Wave kicked past the Philadelphia KiXX tonight at "The Cell" in front of 2,222 fans. Semir Mesanovic recorded his second goal of the season by sending a low bouncer past a helpless KiXX goalkeeper Peter Pappas for the score at 4:45 of the first period. Milwaukee increased its lead when Joe Hammes found Angel Rivillo (8:10), who sent the ball to the far post for the score. Wave newcomer Ricardinho converted Milwaukee's third unanswered goal at 10:10 of the period, recording his first goal with the Wave, as he was able to catch the rebound off Kevin Burk's initial shot. Greg Howes (11:39) continued the offensive onslaught in the opening period when he capitalized on an open net shot, as Pappas had come off his line.
Milwaukee kept things rolling in the second quarter as rookie midfielder Nino Marcantonio (1:50) blasted a shot into the top corner of the net off the assist from Giuliano Oliviero. The goal came after Milwaukee went on the power-play following a Ze Roberto boarding penalty. The KiXX responded with its first goal of the contest when defender Pat Morris found Joel Shanker alone on the right side at 5:50 of the second period.
Vorberg was sent to the box for tripping early in the third and Chris Morman put on the sixth attacker jersey and stepped into goal. KiXX forward Kevin Sloan took the penalty kick, but deflected the ball off the glass. Philadelphia was able to convert just a minute later; however, when John Barry Nusum recorded the unassisted power-play goal at 2:39.
Philadelphia cut the lead down to two, when Pat Morris intercepted the goalkeeper distribution and found Goran Vasic (11:08) who was able to put the ball into the back of the empty net.
The KiXX got the first goal of the final period off a bad cross net pass from the Wave defense and Gary Brooks was able to push the ball past Vorberg for the score at 4:48. Team co-captain Michael King responded with a goal at 7:03, off the back heel pass from Howes at the top of the arc.
Milwaukee extended its lead back to three, when Chris Morman blasted a shot just under the crossbar off the restart goal at 11:11. Philadelphia refused to give up however, as Sloan took a pass from Don D'Ambra for the score just a minute later. But the Wave would hold on for the victory, moving them back into a first place tie with the St. Louis Steamers, who fell 6-4 to the Cleveland Force tonight.
