Milwaukee Wave Game Preview for February 24th & Feb 26th
February 23, 2012 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
Wave (16-5) vs. Missouri Comets (14-8), 7:35 p.m.
QUICK FACTS:
SERIES RECORD: 6-2 Wave lead over Missouri
MILWAUKEE COACH: Keith Tozer (647-391/27 seasons)
MISSOURI COACH: Kim Roentved (22-20/2 seasons)
THE SKINNY:
The Milwaukee Wave will finish off the regular season with a two-game series in Missouri starting with Friday night's game against the Comets, a preview of the upcoming Central Division Finals between the two clubs.
The Comets come into the game riding a season high five game winning streak since Jan. 21. In that span they have taken the leaders of each division, handling Baltimore at home 18-9 while upsetting the Wave at the U.S. cellular Arena 17-14.
Missouri boasts the second most potent offense in the league behind the Wave, led by the MISL's leading scorer Geison. His 78 points are 11 more than anyone else and a testament to his consistency. Geison has scored in all but one game this season, scored at least two points in 20 games and recorded a goal in 18 games. He has been held relatively in check by the Wave in previous games, though, scoring only five points in the past two match-ups compared to the six he dropped on Milwaukee in the first meeting.
Despite Geison's scoring prowess, there is a case to be made that goalkeeper Danny Waltman has been the team's MVP. Waltman leads the MISL in wins with 13 and hasn't allowed over 14 points since Dec. 23, 2011. He leads the league in minutes played and saves while coming in second with a .716 save percentage. He has held Milwaukee under its 15.2 goals per game average in all three match-up.
For Milwaukee, the win over Syracuse Wednesday night snapped a three game skid and officially clinched the Central Division. Vital in the victory was the resurgence of playmaker Marco Terminesi. He had scored a total of two points in the three previous losses but busted out to score twice and rack up four points, bringing his season total up to 40. He became the sixth player on the Wave to reach the 40-point mark this season, the only team in the MISL with more than five players to do so. Marcio Leite also added another two goals last night bringing his season point total to 53, second overall in scoring for the Wave.
WAVE MILESTONE WATCH:
Marco Terminesi: 9th on Wave's 3-point goals list (11, needs 1 more)
Ian Bennett: 100 Wave Points (97)
Gerg Howes: 800 Points (793)
Giuliano Oliviero: 1,100 Points (1,099)
J.P. Rodrigues: 100 Points (97)
Marco Terminesi: 200 Points (197)
