Milwaukee Wave News Release
Milwaukee, WI (February 19, 2005) - On a cold Sunday afternoon, the Milwaukee Wave and the Chicago Storm went head to head at the U.S. Cellular Arena. The teams went back and forth with three ties and no leads larger than two goals, but the Chicago Storm pulled away in the fourth quarter behind two short-handed scores; one by Lazo Alavanja and another by Matt Stewart.
Giuliano Oliviero opened the scoring for the Wave with 8:13 left in the first quarter. Then Greg Howes assisted Marcelo Fontana on a power play goal a few minutes later to put the Wave up two. Neither team was able to build a significant lead going into halftime. The Wave maintained their two goal lead until the 11:18 mark of the second quarter when Gus Kartes scored off of a deflection. Eighteen seconds later Adawalla Morad pulled the Storm even on a breakaway, placing a shot just inside the far post. Greg Howes tallied his second assist of the game, feeding Jonathan Greenfield with five minutes left in the half. Chicago evened the score again when all-star Lazo Alavanja played a restart for Gus Kartes. With less than a minute left in the half, Mark Ughy scored off a pass from Matthew Stewart to give the Storm a 4-3 lead at the break.
Thirty seconds into the third quarter, Alavanja found the back of the net to give the Storm a two goal advantage. Before the end of the quarter, the Wave would pull even. Kyt Selaidopoulos took a restart off the wall from the Joe Hammes to bring the Wave within one. With less than four minutes left in the quarter, Todd Dusosky posted up near the top of the box, received a pass from Chad Dombrowski, spun towards the penalty spot, and scored the tying goal. About halfway through the fourth quarter, Chicago Storm forward, Anthony Maher, went up for a long ball sent into Milwaukee's goal box, knocking Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg into the goal post. Vorberg remained down for a brief time, but finished the game. Maher received a two-minute penalty. The Wave produced scoring opportunities during the power play didn't find the net. Chicago did find the net for two short-handed goals as Lazo Alavanja put a restart into the far corner to give the Storm a 6-5 lead at 7:30. Not a minute later, Adawalla Morad forced a turnover and fed Matthew Stewart for a breakaway goal, and a 7-5 lead. The two short-handed scores were the difference as Milwaukee wasn't able to come back with a sixth attacker.

Following the KiXX game, Milwaukee heads home for the first of four consecutive home games on March 5 at 1:05 p.m. That contest against Chicago will feature the 14th Annual Cousins Subs Mascot Game.
