Milwaukee Wave News Release

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Wave fell 5-4 to the St. Louis Steamers tonight in front of 3,290 at "The Cell", U.S. Cellular Arena. A last second goal by Giuliano Olivierio was not enough for the Wave to overcome the two goal lead that the Steamers had built in the fourth period. The loss is the third straight for the Wave, who fall to 11-9 on the season, while the Steamers improve to 15-9.

Angel Rivillo led Milwaukee with a goal and an assist for two points, while Jeff DiMaria and Mike Apple both had two goals to lead St. Louis. Nick Vorberg suffered the loss in goal for the Wave and Brett Phillips earned the win between the posts for the Steamers.

The St. Louis Steamers got on the board first with a restart goal by forward Mike Apple (12:54) off the assist from Mariano Bollella. Apple's goal would prove to be the only score of the opening period. St. Louis increased its lead in the second stanza, when Apple caught the deflection off a Sterling Wescott shot off the boards and converted for his second goal of the night (4:13).

The Wave got on the board for its first score of the night at the 3:04 minute mark of the third period with a goal by defender Matt Schmidt. The Steamers responded quickly as Randy Soderman found D.J. Newsom who converted the goal into the open net past Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg. Rookie midfielder Nino Marcantonio (2:52) cut the Steamers lead to just one when he was able to slide the ball past St. Louis goalkeeper Brett Phillips off the cross pass from Michael King. The Wave tied things up when Kevin Burk bounced a pass off the boards to Rivillo who was able to blast the ball home for the score at 5:51 of the final period.

Milwaukee's Lovelace Ackah was sent to the box for boarding and the Steamers were able to capitalize on the man advantage to regain the lead with a goal by Jeff DiMaria at 6:11. DiMaria collected his second goal of the match with just over two minutes remaining in the game to give the Steamers a 5-3 lead. The Wave inserted Chris Morman as the sixth attacker and was able to convert a goal with one second remaining on the clock by Giuliano Oliviero, but was unable to overcome the deficit and fell 5-4 to the Steamers.

The Steamers and Wave are now tied 2-2 in the season series between the two clubs. The Wave won the first two games, taking a victory in St. Louis and at home, before dropping the last two games to St. Louis, both at home.

The Wave play at home three consecutive Sundays in March at 1 p.m.: the 6th, 13th and 20th. On March 13 the Wave will take on the Kansas City Comets for the fourth time this season. The 13th signifies the Green Jersey Auction in which that night's game jerseys worn by Wave players will be auctioned off to benefit the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Then on March 20 the Wave will host the St. Louis Steamers for the fourth time at "The Cell", seventh match overall, and is another Piggly Wiggly Family Four Pack Day when fans can get four (4) 14 dollar tickets, four small sodas and hot dogs (a 76 dollar value) for only 50 dollars.
