Milwaukee Wave News Release
Stockton, CA - It was a game with many momentum shifts, but the Wave ended up on top at the end as they won at the Stockton Arena, 8-7. Milwaukee scored the game's first five goals and looked to be in control early in the second quarter. The Cougars had other plans as they responded with five unanswered goals of their own and knotted the score early in the third quarter. The lead changed hands a couple more times before the contest was decided with goals by Angel Rivillo and Todd Dusosky in the game's final five minutes.
The first half was a tale of two quarters with just one goal netted in the first 15 minutes of the game. Greg Howes put the Wave ahead 1-0 with a score off a Giuliano Oliviero assist at 9:27. The second 15 minutes of the contest featured seven goals, four by the Wave and three by the Cougars. Alen Osmanovic and Giuliano Oliviero scored in the first 44 seconds of the frame to give Milwaukee a 3-0 lead. The goals kept coming for the Wave as Osmanovic scored his second of the night at 4:28 and Jonathan Greenfield's tally made it 5-0. California got on the board at 5:44 and John Ball added a penalty kick score less than 30 seconds later to cut Milwaukee's lead to three. Enrique Tovar netted the Cougars third goal of the night with just 10 seconds remaining in the first half and the Wave's five goal lead was reduced to two.
California built on their momentum with two more unanswered goals in the third quarter to knot the score at five. About eight minutes went by without a goal before the Wave was able to retake the lead on a tally by Howes off a Marcelo Fontana assist at 14:16. The goal sent Milwaukee to the fourth quarter with a lead; they were 12-1 when leading after three quarters entering this game.
The Cougars again showed that they weren't going away quietly as Aaron Susi tied the game at six at 4:22 and Craig Sheer gave California the lead with his goal at 6:08. With less than five minutes remaining, the Wave made their move. Angel Rivillo took a Jonathan Greenfield assist for a score at 11:00 to even things up. Then the 2006 MISL All-Star MVP, Todd Dusosky, came through in crunch time again with his third game-winning goal of the season at 11:14. The win snaps a two-game losing streak for Milwaukee and improves their league-best road record to 7-3.
The Wave returns home for a 1:05 p.m. kickoff against their rivals to the south, the Chicago Storm on Sunday. At that game, the Wave will honor champion gymnast and West Allis, Wisconsin, native Chellsie Memmel.
