St. Louis Steamers News Release
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers (14-4) will take on the Philadelphia KiXX (Feb. 18th) and the Baltimore Blast (Feb. 20th) during the Presidents' Day weekend. They will travel to the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia to take on the KiXX Saturday night at 6:05 pm CDT. Then the Steamers will use the off day on Sunday to travel back to St. Louis, to prepare for a game against the third place, Baltimore Blast in Savvis Center Monday afternoon at 4:35 pm CDT.
The Steamers are a perfect 2-0 against the KiXX (4-12) this season with wins of 8-4 (Nov. 26th) and a 6-5 overtime final (Jan. 7th), which ended with a goal by defender and current MISL Defender of the Week, D.J. Newsom. The first meeting was the home opener this season and it was a sign of things to come as St. Louis has gone on to be undefeated at home with a 9-0 record. The KiXX have lost their last seven games and have dropped to fifth place in the MISL standings. Philadelphia has a home record of 3-6 and their last win at Wachovia was a 3-2 win over the Chicago Storm on December 10th.
Monday's match up against Baltimore (12-6) brings some interest. The Steamers are 2-2 so far against the Blast making Baltimore the only team in the MISL in which the Steamers don't have a winning record against. Both wins have come at home with finals of 7-2 (Dec. 16th) and 12-3 (Jan. 24th). While the Steamers ran up 12 goals on Baltimore the last time they met in Savvis, the Blast have twice scored 12 goals against the MISL leading defense, both coming at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore. The Blast has won three straight and four out of their last five, bringing them with in only two games of the Steamers for first place.
