Milwaukee claims Turnbow off waivers, Pride granted free agency

ANAHEIM, CA - The Angels Thursday announced right-handed pitcher Derrick Turnbow was claimed off waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers and outfielder Curtis Pride has accepted free agency rather than an assignment to triple-A Salt Lake. These announcements were made by club Vice President/General Manager Bill Stoneman.

Turnbow, 26, spent the 2004 season with Salt Lake going 2-6 with six saves and a 5.06 ERA (74.2 IP - 42 ER) in 46 games (three starts). He spent the entire 2000 season on the Angels' roster and posted no record with a 4.74 ERA (38 IP - 20 ER) in 24 games (one start). He appeared in 11 games (all relief) with the club in 2003, going 2-0 with a 0.59 ERA (15.1 IP - 1 ER).

A native of Union City, TN, Turnbow was selected by the Angels in the Rule V Major League Draft, Dec. 13, 1999.

Pride, 35, had his contract selected by the Angels July 27 from Salt Lake where he hit .431 (28/65) with two home runs and 10 RBI in 19 games. He appeared in 35 games with Angels (four starts) batting .250 (10/40) with three RBI.

The outfielder was originally signed by the club to a minor league contract, May 28, after opening the season with the Nashua Pride of the Atlantic League. Pride has appeared in the Majors with Montreal (1993, 1995, 2001), Detroit (1996-97), Boston (1997, 2000), Atlanta (1998), New York Yankees (2003) and Angels (2004).
