Mill Rats Hand Storm Third Straight Loss

(Charlottetown, PE) The Saint John Mill Rats came into Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown Sunday afternoon and out shot the Island STORM en route to a 115-99 win, giving the STORM their third straight loss.

The Mill Rats shot over 51% from the floor including 43% from the 3 point line. The STORM, on the other hand, shot 42% from the floor and were 5-25 from the 3 point line at just 20%.

The Mill Rats ran out to a 9 point lead after the 1st quarter and finished the 1st half with a 55-50 lead. Saint John came out smoking in the 3rd quarter outscoring the STORM 44-21 and from there cruised to the win.

Nick Evans led the STORM with 24 points to go with 8 rebounds while Nick Okorie added 14 points and Billy Rush 12. Mike Martin added 9 points and 8 rebounds.

Anthony Anderson had a fine afternoon for the Mill Rats with 30 points while shooting 66% from the floor which included 57% from the 3 point line. Kenny Jones added 19 points for Saint John while Johnny Mayhane scored 17.

The STORM fall to 19-11 on the season, a half game ahead of the Halifax Rainmen for the race for 1st in the Atlantic Division. The Rainmen beat Moncton Sunday afternoon to move to 19-12.

The STORM have two regular season games left, both at home, starting with Monday night when the London Lightning visit Eastlink Centre for a 7pm starter. This is a rescheduled game from last Monday which was cancelled due to weather.

The final game of the regular season for the STORM comes up Thursday night at Eastlink against Halifax and will decide 1st place in the Atlantic Division of the NBL Canada and home court advantage for the first two rounds of the playoffs.

The Sunday afternoon STORM game saw Carol Walker win the Sherwood Mortgage Brokers draw where her next months mortgage payment, up to $1,000, will be paid by Sherwood Mortgage Brokers. Rob Lewis was the winner of the 50-50 draw and took home half of the $1,015 total pot.
