Military Appreciation Game May 22nd
Ahead of the NOLA Gold's 7:00 pm match against the Utah Warriors this Saturday, Hogs For the Cause will be hosting a "Pig-tailgate" in the Gold Mine parking lot from 4:00-6:30 pm. After the game, there will be a fireworks show sponsored by Crystal Clear Imaging.
Fans with game-day tickets for NOLA vs Utah may access the Pig-tailgate at no additional cost. The event will feature live music by the Rhythm Kings Band and a 10 team cook-off. Fans will vote on which recipes they enjoyed the most, and a trophy will be presented to the winner on the field at halftime.
Hogs for the Cause is a New Orleans-based non-profit organization whose annual music/food festival is the largest source of fundraising for pediatric brain cancer nationwide.
Hogs for the Cause founder Drew Harrington had this to say about the Pig-Tailgate:
"It's like a test kitchen... an opportunity for our teams to test out new recipes and hone in their skills before the main event. The teams are so loyal, and everyone's so fired up about their team...It's a lot of fun...everyone's trying to one-up each other, and it shows."
The main Hogs for the Cause festival will be held from June 4-5 at the Plaquemines Parish Government Facility in Belle Chasse this year.
Last year's 2020 festival was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hogs for the Cause 2019 raised upwards of 2 million dollars for pediatric cancer.
"Last year was a huge disappointment, we got right up to launch day... to the point where teams were getting ready to spend a lot of money on supplies, and build their plots out on the [festival] grounds...but we had to pull the plug and it was a huge letdown.
Chisesi's Pride has provided the sausage for the event, and teams will be cooking with their special Hogs for the Cause Sausage.
