Wenatchee AppleSox News Release
WENATCHEE, Wash. - Miles Kizer, an assistant baseball coach from Western Oregon University, will join the AppleSox as an assistant coach for the 2015 season, AJ Proszek and the AppleSox announced Thursday.
"First and foremost, Miles came highly recommended by Gonzaga's coaches," Proszek said. "They thought he was a great choice and a great option. He has a great idea for what to look for in different situations. The AppleSox look for quality individuals to surround the program, because it's not about wins and losses, it's about doing things the right way, and I think he's going to do a great job for us."
Entering his fourth season with the WOU Wolves, Kizer has collegiate playing and coaching experience.
He also started as an assistant coach with the Post 20 Dirtbags, an AAA American Legion team in Dallas/West Salem, Ore. Kizer was named the head coach of the Dirtbags in 2013, and led the team to its first appearance in the state tournament, followed by another in 2014.
"I'm very excited to join a very dominant program and a very good collegiate summer league," Kizer said. "When I was asked about the opportunity, I jumped at it. It's exciting to work with AJ and see a different side of the game and coaching in a very competitive summer league is also very exciting."
Collegiately, Kizer played baseball at Glendale Community College in Arizona, the University of Washington, and Western Oregon University.
While at Glendale CC, Kizer, also a member of the Vaqueros football team, split time between the diamond and the gridiron.
As a sophomore at Glendale CC, Kizer was named NJCAA DII All-American 1st team as a catcher, and helped the Vaqueros baseball team advance to the post season in two consecutive seasons.
After spending his senior season with WOU, Kizer graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and immediately began coaching for his alma mater.
In his first three seasons as a coach at WOU, Kizer helped lead the Wolves to wins in back-to-back-to-back Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship games.
In Wenatchee, Kizer will serve as the third base coach and assist with a large portion of the on-field coaching.
Notable
Kizer joins third-year pitching coach, and first-year head coach, AJ Proszek, who was named the AppleSox Head Coach Aug. 14, 2014.
The AppleSox are expected to complete their coaching staff with the addition of another assistant later this offseason.
The AppleSox open 2015, June 4 at 7:05 p.m., when the San Francisco Seals come to town for a two-game non-league series. Single game and season tickets can be purchased by calling: 509-665-6900.
