Barrie Colts News Release
Barrie, ON- The Barrie Colts today announced that Director of Player Personnel & Head Scout Mike McCann has resigned from his duties with the hockey club.
McCann has been with the organization in different capacities since the Colts entered into the OHL as an expansion franchise in the 1995-96 season. He served as an area scout from 1995 to 1999 and then was promoted to Head Scout prior to the 1999 draft. McCann then officially took over the duties as General Manager & Head Scout prior to the 2000-01 season, a role he served in for five seasons before assuming the title of Director of Player Personnel & Head Scout prior to the 2005-06 season.
While operating as the club's Head Scout, McCann selected 41 players from the OHL Priority Selection that dressed as regulars in the Colts' lineup. While General Manager, the club recorded a 160-117-41-22 regular season record (.563) and qualified for the post-season each year, while advancing to the OHL Finals in 2002 against the Erie Otters. After directing his first draft in 1999, the Colts' first six selections played for the club the following season.
"I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the Massie family and the Barrie Colts for their confidence, trust and continued support they expressed to me over the years," stated McCann. "I wish the Colts continued success, and I will always remain a fan of the team."
"Mike has been instrumental in identifying and recruiting the type of talent that has made this team competitive year in and year out," stated Colts Majority Owner, Howie Campbell. "I would like to wish Mike and his family all the best in their future endeavors, and thank him for his lead role in always having the club on the right track."
