Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - Peterborough Minor Hockey Club (PMHC) President and Peterborough Girls Hockey Association (PGHA) Coach Mike Martone is recognized as this week's exceptional minor hockey volunteer. The Petes want to celebrate local minor hockey volunteers for their contributions to the execution of a safe local minor hockey program.
Martone is celebrated for the extensive time he put into getting PMHC teams back on the ice in a safe manner before the second provincial lockdown. In addition to being the PMHC President he is also on the bench with the U16 AAA Petes and is Head Coach of the U13 Peterborough Ice Kats. A well regarded figure in the Peterborough community, Martone is notorious for supporting and offering assistance to a variety of minor hockey programs in the City of Peterborough and surrounding rural areas.
"Mike helped me with the coach selection process for Norwood Minor Hockey. He is also a teacher at Immaculate Conception school in Peterborough. I can't think of anyone more deserving for the Minor Hockey Volunteer of the Week." says Seamus McDougall who nominated Mike for this week's volunteer of the week.
"I've had the privilege of knowing Marty (Martone) for the last six to seven years, he's a super passionate guy and I mean he moved down here from the SOO after getting drafted by the Petes and he loves Peterborough. I've had the pleasure of being on the ice with him while coaching and you could just see the passion that he has for the game and he loves teaching the kids, he sometimes has just as much if not more fun than the kids, he's just a great teacher and he's truly there for the kids to have a great experience."
Each week the Petes will recognize and celebrate one volunteer from the PMHC , PHA , PGHA , and local adaptive hockey organizations for their additional time and effort in ensuring a safe environment and return for hockey.
The Petes welcome players, parents and other members of the minor hockey community to nominate deserving local volunteers by filling out this form .
Every Thursday Petes fans are encouraged to tune in to the Peterborough Petes Facebook page for TNL. Each episode of TNL features an exclusive Q&A with special celebrity guests, a musical performance, cooking segments, and merchandise offers.
