September 2, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Oklahoma City Blazers News Release

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed veteran forward Marty Standish, defenseman Jaye Judd and goaltender Doug Groenestege to contracts, head coach Doug Sauter announced today.

Standish, a 5-8, 170-pounder from Kelvington, Saskatchewan is entering his eighth season as a Blazer, his 10th in the professional ranks. He enters the 08-09 campaign ranked no worse than fifth in any offensive statistical category in Blazers franchise history. Standish sits second in goals (188) and short-handed goals (16), third in points (443), assists (255), penalty minutes (1104) and game-winning goals (28) and fourth in games played in games played (437) and power-play goals (52).

The 07-08 season was full of milestones for Standish. On November 18, he eclipsed the 500-point plateau for his professional career. Nearly a month later, he became the fourth player in franchise history to play in 400 games as a Blazer. In 572 games as a pro, Standish has recorded 530 points (221-309-530) and served 1,501 penalty minutes.

Groenestege is entering his fourth season as a pro. The 6-2, 210-pounder from Stratford, Ontario skated last season with the Austin Ice Bats, posting a 5-9-0 record, but a 2.89 goals against average and .916 saves percentage. His best season as a pro came during the 06-07 season with the Richmond Renegades of the SPHL. He posted a 20-16-3 mark, a 3.54 goals against average, a .909 saves percentage and two shutouts. Before turning pro, he played at the junior level with the Ottawa 67's, Mississauga IceDogs and Milton Icehawks and at the collegiate level with the University of British Columbia.

The 6-2, 210-pound Judd hails from Brandon, Manitoba. The last four seasons, Judd has skated with Bentley College in Waltham, Mass. In 124 games over four seasons with the Falcons, he recorded 47 points (9-38-47) and served 306 penalty minutes. He served as team captain for his final two seasons with the Falcons. Prior to attending Bentley, he played three seasons with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, scoring 57 points (7-50-57) and serving 232 penalty minutes in 130 games.

"Standish brings tenacity, veteran leadership and his popularity with the fans to the table," said Sauter. "By his standards, last season wasn't Marty's best. He is aware of what he needs to work on to contribute to our club. Groenestege showed good numbers last season on an Austin club that had trouble scoring goals. He is a big goaltender who can cover his ground in net. Judd continues to add size to our defensive corps. He is going to be a rookie, but after four years at the university level, he has that much more of an advantage over a 20-year old."

The addition of Standish, Groenestege and Judd bring the number of players signed for the 08-09 season to 20. He joins forwards D.J. Jelitto, Brian Passmore, Jason Murfitt, Simon Lambert, Bill Vandermeer, Ted Vandermeer, Bobby Reed, Brennen Francon, Mark Black and Quinn Amiel defensemen Tyler Fleck, Stacey Bauman, Justin Sawyer, Tyler Harder, Jason Seerey and Ryan Waldner and goaltender Andy Franck.

The Blazers 17th season of play commences October 17 at the Ford Center against the Tulsa Oilers. Season ticket packages are available now by calling the Blazers office at 235-PUCK.
