Midfielder Lucas Rodriguez Returns to Comets for 2015/16 MASL Season

INDEPENDENCE, MO (October 18, 2015) - The Comets announced today the return of midfielder Lucas Rodriguez. The Buenos Aires, Argentina native signed a two-year contract after playing for North American Soccer League (NASL) team Jacksonville Armada this past season. Per league and team policies, additional contract details were not disclosed.

"I am very excited to come back to the Comets and contribute to the great work the team, coaches and organization have done," Rodriguez said. "I always gave my best and will continue to do so."

Rodriguez, 29, is no stranger to Coach Vlatko Andonovski's team. He helped the Comets win their first Major Indoor Soccer League championship two years ago. That season, he totaled 47 points with 15 goals (two three-pointers) and 15 assists. In addition, he added one more goal and four assists in the playoffs.

Prior to kicking off the inaugural season of the Major Arena Soccer League last year, the team released Rodriguez who was offered to play in Jacksonville where he played a total of 1031 minutes in 19 games.

Before moving to Lenexa, Kansas with his family at the age of 14, he trained in the C.A. Boca Juniors youth development system in Argentina. Rodriguez began his collegiate career at Johnson County Community College but transferred to Mid-America Nazarene University where he led the Pioneers to the HAAC Championship and was named MVP.

Rodriguez, will be playing his fifth season with the team. Following the 2010/11 campaign, he was named MISL Rookie of the Year. In addition, he has scored a total of 43 goals and totaled 129 points in four seasons with the Comets.
