Greenville Triumph SC News Release

Greenville, SC - The Triumph have agreed to their second transfer of the 2019-20 offseason, sending midfielder Christopher Bermudez to 2019 USL Championship-winning side Real Monarchs, pending league and federation approval. Greenville is set to receive a transfer fee and future considerations in return for Bermudez, with exact terms of the agreement undisclosed. He joins defender Kevin Politz (Hartford Athletic) as the second player the Triumph have transferred to Championship clubs.

"We're happy to have been a part of his development," said Head Coach John Harkes. "Getting players ready to compete at the next level is a large part of our mission. Chris is going to an accomplished side in Monarchs, and it will be a great challenge for him. I want to thank him for all he contributed to our club, and we wish him the best in the Championship."

During his time with the Triumph, the 20-year-old appeared in 24 matches and logged 1,424 minutes. He made his mark in the club's inaugural campaign scoring three of the most notable goals from 2019. The midfielder's first professional goal, perfectly placed in the left upper 90, gave Triumph SC a 1-0 victory in front of a sold-out Forward Madison crowd late in the season. Bermudez's clutch scoring didn't stop there, as his latter two goals sent GTSC to the League One playoffs and the League One Final in a 3-2 win over Tucson and a 1-0 win over Lansing, respectively.

Originally from Union City, New Jersey, Bermudez played for the New York Red Bulls Academy from 2015-2017. During that time, he tallied 8 goals in 28 appearances. Bermudez also spent time with Mexican powerhouse Club Pachuca before signing with GTSC in 2019.

Earlier this week, the Triumph signed former Tormenta winger Alex Morrell to bolster depth at the midfield position.
