March 12, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI - ÃÂ The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, will host the Michigan Warriors in a Wednesday night matchup at 6 p.m. at McMorran Arena. The game is the first between the North Division's top two teams since January, and only the second since the end of 2013. Fighting Falcons team posters will be given away to all fans in attendance at Wednesday's game.
ÃÂ
The Fighting Falcons (30-14-8, 68 points) became the first North Division team to clinch a spot in the 2014 Robertson Cup Playoffs with their win Saturday night in Springfield. The Warriors (26-16-9, 61 points) sit seven points behind the Fighting Falcons after back-to-back losses against the Soo Eagles over the weekend.
ÃÂ
The mid-week matchup could send one Fighting Falcons fan home with a great cash prize, as the Chuck-a-Puck pot is currently at nearly $700, and would be nearly $900 with another sellout.
ÃÂ
No NAHL team has given Port Huron more trouble this season than Michigan, as the Fighting Falcons have won just two of eight matchups so far this season. The Warriors have won four in a row against the Fighting Falcons. Port Huron's last win over Michigan came in late October.
ÃÂ
Vito Aluia leads the Fighting Falcons with seven points on two goals and five assists against the Warriors this season. Zach Szajner's eight points on three goals and five assists lead the way for Michigan. Goalie Alex Blankenburg has both of Port Huron's wins over Michigan this season, while Trevor Gorsuch is 4-0-1 for the Warriors during the season series.
ÃÂ
Wednesday's game will be the first of four between the North Division's leaders before the end of the regular season. Each of the Fighting Falcons' final three games of the season will be against the Warriors later this month.
ÃÂ
The battle for playoff position in the North Division is hotly contended, as only the Fighting Falcons have secured their spot with as little as seven games to go for some North teams. The second-place Warriors are still seven points away from earning a playoff berth. The Fighting Falcons could clinch their second North Division title in the last three seasons as soon as Sunday, if they go 3-0 this week and the Warriors go 0-3.
ÃÂ
Auctions will begin Wednesday for game-worn Fighting Falcons jerseys, with opening bids set at just $90.
ÃÂ
The Fighting Falcons will welcome a Mother-Son group from all local city recreation departments at Wednesday night's game. For more information about joining the Mother-Son group, contact your local city recreation department.
ÃÂ
Tickets to any Fighting Falcons home game are available at the McMorran Arena Box Office, starting at just $7 for seniors, students and military. For more information, call the team's front office at (810) 966-3800.
