Toronto, ON - York9 FC can confirm that Michael Petrasso is headed for London, England and has completed a season-long loan move to English National League side Barnet FC.

The 25-year-old, who re-signed with the Canadian Premier League outfit for 2021 and 2022 just last week, will return at the end of June.

The winger, who moved to York9 back in January after spending the inaugural 2019 CPL campaign with Valour FC in Winnipeg, was left deeply frustrated when injury curtailed his involvement at the recent Island Games in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. But, this temporary switch to Barnet is designed to ensure Petrasso is raring to go next season.

"This is a move that really works when we look at the aims of both the club and player", says Angus McNab, York9's Managing Consultant.

"Ultimately, we need a fully fit Michael Petrasso and getting full-time training and regular minutes is what he needs. When we loan players, it's done with the best interest of the player and club in mind. A fully fit Michael Petrasso playing to his potential will lead to discussions about a return to the Canadian Men's National Team. He needs games and a full-time environment to get back to that. Barnet have been a pleasure to deal with as we've arranged this opportunity and they're sure to take great care of him."

Petrasso has a deep-rooted relationship with London, having joined Queens Park Rangers as a teenager. He racked up many Championship appearances for the club between 2014 and 2017 while he also impressed in League One while on loan at Oldham Athletic, Coventry City and Leyton Orient. Petrasso also boasts Major League Soccer experience, having spent 2018 with the Montreal Impact.

"I'm really happy that York9 has been so flexible and allowed me to take up this opportunity at Barnet," Petrasso says.

"I had a deeply disappointing year with injury and the chance to go play some games is exactly what I need. It's a bit strange as I'm excited by both opportunities. I loved my previous time in England with QPR so to get back across is great. But I also can't wait to come back to Canada for the 2021 CPL season and show my true potential, as York9 fans certainly haven't seen that from me yet."
