Miami will battle Atlanta at Tropical Park on Sunday
July 24, 2008 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
Miami, July 24 - Miami FC (4-7-8) returns home to clash with the Atlanta Silverbacks (5-4-6) this Sunday July 27th at 6 pm (ET) in Tropical Park Stadium. Miami just completed a difficult two-game road trip where they tied one (0-0) and lost another (3-1) against two of the better teams in the USL-1, Rochester and Montreal. The Silverbacks recorded a tie (1-1) in their last USL-1 game and have played the Blues once this year, in the US Open Cup. Miami came away with a 1-0 win to advance to the next round of the competition.
Before that match at Saputo Stadium against the Impact, Miami FC was on a 9-game unbeaten streak dating back to May. Good news has come in as Miami will come into Tropical Park Stadium at full strength. There will only be one regular not in the line-up, Sean Cameron, who will be out for 3-4 weeks due to a surgery in his jaw. USL-1 leading scorer and points leader, Alex Afonso, will be making his return home. He has scored in the last 3 home games including the winning goal on July 4th against Puerto Rico.
Atlanta is trying to regain some of their early season form when they had a 6-game unbeaten streak of their own. Their last USL-1 match ended 1-1 against the Portland Timbers in a game in which both teams scored after the 90th minute. The Silverbacks are lead into battle by their two midfielders, Jason McLaughlin and Macoumba Kandji. Both are having impressive seasons for Atlanta with each one in the top 5 for goals and points in the USL-1. Kandji has already tallied 6 goals, which is good enough for 4th place and is 3rd in points with 16.
Miami's next home match at Tropical Park is on July 29th against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Group tickets are currently on sale by visiting our ticket page by calling 305-728-2612.
